REC plans to increase exports to Peru

25.03.2021
“Peru is a long-term and reliable partner of Russia. I am sure that the cooperation between REC and the Embassy of Peru will foster trade and economic ties, as well as give an impetus for entrepreneurs of both countries to cooperate and implement joint projects,” Dmitry Prokhorenko, Director for Development of the Foreign Network of Russian Export Center JSC, said at a meeting with the delegation of the Embassy of Peru, headed by Juan Genaro del Campo Rodriguez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Russian Federation.

The participants of the meeting raised the issues of interbank cooperation, the involvement of Russian companies in government projects in Peru, as well as the organization of business meetings for business representatives of both countries.

“We must work to ensure that our commercial relationships are at a strategic partnership level,” the Ambassador said. He recalled that in 2015 an agreement on strategic cooperation was signed between Russia and Peru, which provides a pipeline for the development of the economic partnership.

The need to increase trade potential between the two countries became the core motif of the meeting and caused a positive reaction of both sides. Dmitry Prokhorenko, Director for Development of the Foreign Network of Russian Export Center, noted that “today the trade turnover between our countries is not as large as we would like. At the same time, we receive a large number of requests from our exporters to enter the Peruvian market, and we want to jointly improve the figures.”

In the past year, the total volume of NRE export to Peru amounted to $ 177.7 M, which is 33.5% less than in 2019.

“Many chains between buyers and sellers have been disrupted during the Pandemic, and REC offers its assistance to restore them,” Dmitry Prokhorenko stressed.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to raise the awareness of national entrepreneurs about the state of the Peruvian and Russian markets by conducting business matches aimed at popularizing Russian products among Peruvian buyers and the Latin American market among the Russian manufacturers.

The parties also agreed to evolve interbank cooperation between the State Specialized Russian Export-Import Bank (Eximbank of Russia JSC, part of the REC Group) and the Peruvian financial institutions and promote Russian companies to the Peruvian market by establishing contacts between the REC Group and Peruvian industrial associations.
