The Budapest subway is one of the oldest subways in the world and one of the first ones in the continental Europe. At the beginning of the fifties of the preceding century specialists from the USSR were invited to design and create the rolling stock while at the beginning of the nineties a lot of cars were fully produced in Russia and exported to Hungary.
We can say that the history of the Hungarian subway is closely connected with our country, more exactly – with the plant Metrovagonmash. Metrovagonmash is famous by production of comfortable subway cars. Million passengers each year descending to subways of not only Russia and Hungary but also other countries of the Near and Far Abroad fast get from one end of the city to the other in cars produced by the Russian plant.
In October 2015 Eximbank of Russia opened a credit facility to Metrovagonmash OJSC in the amount of RUB 4 billion for fulfillment of obligations under export contracts for production and modernization of the rolling stock for the Budapest subway.
At the solemn ceremony of signing of the agreement the Chairman of the Board of Eximbank of Russia Dmitry Golovanov said: “This is one of the largest transactions implemented by us within the framework of the Russian export center: Metrovagonmash has obtained a complex of financial and non-financial services on the “single window” basis. I would like to especially note: the facility was approved within the framework of the program of Eximbank of Russia for support of the high-tech export. A full-value export support system has been created in the country today. I am sure that this will significantly favor development of the export potential of domestic companies both from the point of view of export volume growth and from the point of view of increase in the number of exporters”.
